Fomites are inanimate objects that can be contaminated with infectious organisms and serve as a route of transmission.[1] Fomites could include things like clothing, bedding, doorknobs, railings, neckties, stethoscopes, and IV units.

Fomite transmission of EVD is one of the recognized pathways to infection[2], occurring through contact of items contaminated with an infected person's bodily fluids.
