Fomites are inanimate objects that can be contaminated with infectious organisms and serve as a route of transmission. Fomites could include things like clothing, bedding, doorknobs, railings, neckties, stethoscopes, and IV units.
Fomite transmission of EVD is one of the recognized pathways to infection, occurring through contact of items contaminated with an infected person's bodily fluids.
