HCW is an acroynm for Health Care worker. The term health care worker is a broad category of people who work in the health profession. Health care workers can include, but are not limited to doctors, nurses, nurses aids, orderlies, technicians, and EMS (emergency medical services) workers.

In the 2014 EVD outbreak, as of Oct 23 2014, 450 HCWs have become infected and 224 have died.[1] HCWs are particularity susceptible to infection due to the close proximity to patients when they are highly symptomatic and experiencing high viral load.
